Scott, which Zodiac did you finally decide on- the 1 or 2? I know a lot of people are saying the Z2 is better because it has more internal memory, and internal memory works better with applications (especially if you're into emulators). Is this true?! Do you think getting the Z1 and a cheap SD card wouldn't work as good? I haven't ordered mine yet, and I wanted someone's opinion

Thanks Very Happy

Constinento, I left it intentionally vague in my post, waiting for someone to ask. Wink I ended up buying the Z1, in fact, because I'm trying to be frugal, and I didn't see much chance of the Z2 really being able to do anything that a Z1 with a fast SD card couldn't do. Right after I ordered it and posted a story where I made another comment about how I didn't see the Z2 as being worth the extra money, someone commented that a Tapwave developer has clarified that the extra memory in the Z2 could, in theory, be used directly by games. While this won't likely happen for Tapwave-certified apps (at least not for a long while), it is possible that developers of game emulators may find use for this.

I should note also that the Z2 can use some of that internal memory as "virtual" storage (like an SD card), which means that you can store MP3s directly on the internal memory. This isn't something that you can normally do with Palm OS devices. The recent Sony UX-series does something similar (or perhaps identical). Interestingly, it was this fact that led me to believe that the Z2's extra memory was exactly like an internal SD card and, thus, couldn't be accessed directly for running games from it, but apparently that isn't quite true.

So, after all that, I guess I can't really make a suggestion for you. If money is tight and you want to play a lot of MP3s, you'll actually get more storage for your money with a Z1 and a 256MB memory card. But if you're really interested in game emulators, you may want to consider the possibility that the Z2 could offer some advantage (again, though, no such emulators have been announced).

Well, if you register here, you won't have to put your name in (no sarcastic comments from anyone else Razz ).

I don't think that the games will paly any different on one device compared to the other (Z1 vs. Z2). I say that because there have been several interviews/articles where the Tapwave representatives say that in order to develope for the Zodiac, it has to run on both.

As always, everybody here is right a little bit.

There is one exception. Emulation.

The emulator will run on Z1 and Z2. No problem. But in order to play the ROM, the emulator needs the whole ROM transferred to RAM. For some ROM's, the 32M version will be too small. There is no easy way this can be done from SD card, although it -might- be possible.

So i am going for the 128M version.
